News03/08/2009 - Golf Conference Tees Up Big Hitter!How Belgium we can become a Golf Destination? Roger pride, Marketing Director of the Welsh Tourist Board will address delegates on the growing economic force holidaying golfers can bring to a country. Roger Pride said; " am delighted to be representing Wales at this Golf Management conference. Wales has dramatically grown it's presence as a global golfing destianation in recent years and I'm hoping to be able to help explain to the conference some of the great successes of our golf tourism strategy. I hope that the delegates will also get some useful insights into developing brands and marketing campaigns that really make a difference to their own products. Roger Pride began his career in the travel/tourism industry with Pickfords Travel. He then moved to Avis Rent-A-Car, before a spell outside the travel industry with Golley Slater and Partners , Wales' leading advertising agency. Since joining the Wales Tourist Board, Roger has undertaken several roles and is now Director of Marketing. He has been responsible for developing all aspects of the Boards Marketing Strategy. He has a particular interest in Destination Branding recently jointly edited the first major book on branding places as well as contributing to other branding texts. He developed the tourism brand strategy for Wales Tourist Board, which has resulted in the award winning and commercially successful campaigns. He is currently advising on a new Brand Strategy for Wales , which will guide the future marketing of Wales. He takes up a new position as Director of Marketing within the newly formed Welsh Assembly Government Department of Enterprise, Innovation and Networks in April. He has been heavily involved in various major Sports Tourism Projects. He Chaired the Wales Marketing Group for Rugby World Cup 1999 and will be responsible for the Wales Rally GB. He has led the development of a Golf Tourism Strategy for Wales and is also a Director of Ryder Cup Wales 2010 Ltd. The Wales Tourist Board is an Assembly Sponsored Public Body, answerable to the Minister for Economic Development of the Welsh Assembly Government. The Board was set up under the Development of Tourism Act 1969. The role of the Wales Tourist Board is to support the tourism industry and to provide the appropriate strategic framework within which private enterprise can achieve sustainable growth and success, so improving the social and economic well being.
